Outstretched wings of driftwood and a steel arc — the asymmetric balance of freedom, wind and eternal motion. ‘Archipelago of Oblivion’ series.
Description
I found this piece of driftwood already carrying the form of a boat within it — heavy, sculptural, driving forward as though a hull caught at full speed. My task was not to invent this image, but to give it a sail: a slender steel arc rises above the wood like a mast, or like a stroke of wind left frozen in place the moment it stopped moving.
The contrast here is essential — the rough, water-worn layers of the wood against the cold, perfectly smooth curve of the metal. Every crack has been preserved untouched: this is the wood’s authentic record of its own life, not an imitation of age. The stand and the welded seam are left visible, not hidden — craftsmanship and nature stand here as equals.
The piece is one of a kind, as only an object shaped by the sea rather than a machine can be. An accent for an interior that fills the space with a sense of freedom, wind, and an endless voyage.
