This series of sculptures explores the boundary between the material and the ephemeral. The foundation is driftwood—wood that has been shaped by water, wind, and time. Each piece presents the silhouette of a sailboat or a vessel, stripped of specific details.
There is nothing artificially perfect or polished smooth in these sculptures. On the contrary, natural cracks, chips, abrasions, and uneven wood tones remain alive—they hold the memory of the elements that created this material.
Wire and metal rods enter into a dialogue with the wood. In some works, they form a sail arched in a curve impossible in real physics. In others, they serve merely as an axis upon which the heavy timber floats. Superfluous details are removed: there is no rigging, no flags, no people. There is only the aspiration upward—the mast, the forward movement—the bow, and the weight of the past—the hull.
This is a metaphor for the journey of life. We are all ships that were once broken or forgotten, but have found a new form and peace at anchor.
