Dancing Wind
Two pieces of driftwood, found by the sea separately: a massive hull and a sail twisted into a spiral, as though the wind had frozen mid-motion within the wood.
Description
I assembled this piece from two pieces of driftwood, each having traveled its own path through water long before meeting the other. The lower piece, massive and branching, became the hull — its rough, knotted texture carries the years spent in the waves, and I chose not to hide them. The upper fragment gave shape to the sail: a thin, flowing ribbon of wood, twisted into a spiral, as though the wind had briefly taken visible form and frozen in that gesture.
A slender metal rod holds the sail in near-weightless balance — it passes through the curve of the wood without disrupting it, simply offering support where the form was already reaching upward. I left the asymmetry untouched: the hull rests heavy and grounded, while the sail above it still seems caught in motion.
The piece is one of a kind — like any union of two things, found separately by the sea and left to remain together. An accent for an interior where what matters is not a perfect form, but the authenticity of the material and its own unrepeatable history.
