The piece is one of a kind — a union of two things, found by the sea separately and left to remain together.
Description
I found this vertical fragment of driftwood already carrying a gesture within it — a smooth, winding stroke, as though someone had drawn a single character with a brush and left it frozen in mid-air. The layered texture is not my doing — it is the wood’s own memory of its path through the water.
The base became a slab: rough, flat, found separately and later. Its weight and groundedness were needed as a contrast to the light stroke rising above it — as though one movement were emerging from another, held in stillness.
Every crack I left as it was — it is the wood’s own map of its life, not a flaw.
The sculpture returns the eye to contemplation — to a stillness in which the slow, eternal rhythm of natural cycles can be felt. A striking accent for minimalist spaces in a wabi-sabi or eco-design aesthetic.
