Material and Method

Carved from a single block of olive wood that died naturally, this is a biomorphic abstract sculpture: the form wasn’t planned in advance but emerged as material was removed, guided by the wood’s own grain and texture. Sanding, polishing, and waxing don’t just finish the surface — they reveal it, giving the wood depth and a soft glow beneath the wax.

Silhouette, Light, and Void

The silhouette suggests a body caught mid-rise — but this isn’t a portrait of any creature. It’s a form shaped by the material’s own logic of growth, with no single vantage point: it asks to be seen from every angle. Light passes unevenly through the hollows carved into it, so mass and void trade places as you move around it — a byproduct of the carving process itself, not decoration, as the sculptor works toward a balance between weight and air.

Organic Geometry

There are no straight edges, no symmetry — that, too, is part of the method. A biomorphic form follows the organic logic of the material rather than any imposed geometry, drawing on the underlying principles of natural structures: flexibility, branching, no fixed sense of up or down. This isn’t anatomy or illustration — it works through surface and mass alone: the polish, the weight of the wood, the light caught inside it, producing something felt more than read.
